Development Status : Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 5/4S/4 iOS 6.0.1/6.0.2 Beta Version

iOS 6 on A5 devices has so far been unbreakable for developers. iPhone Dev-Team and Chronic Dev-Team haven’t released a jailbreak for iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S compatible with the latest iOS version from Apple, although these devices and new iOS release have made it to the market months ago.

There have been several sources that announced the release of an iPhone 5 jailbreak, but they proved to be scams. Some reports say that developers are half way through and a jailbreak for iOS 6 on A5 devices should be released this year.

iJailbreakiPhone5s.com in partnership with Chip Group Developers and Ironclad Ltd is the latest to join the efforts to develop a functional jailbreak for iPhone 5, taking a stand against the past few months’ scams and fake claims. Our experts are iPhone users, buyers and app developers, and are just as interested in an iPhone 5/4S jailbreak as the millions of owners worldwide. They asked to keep their identity unknown, at least until the software is launched, but rest assured we’ve got brainy minds working on this project.

BlueStacks GamePop Brings iOS App Store Games to Your TV

Here’s one hack you don’t have to wait for the jailbreak. BlueStacks GamePop Android console is being rebuilt to be compatible with iOS so it will be able to bring iOS App Store games to your TV.

BlueStacks’ GamePop for iOS games is the kind of app that shows there’s a change going on in the world of digital content via multiple platforms. Being able to build an API that allows devs to run on Android, or iOS games to your TV, is the kind of novelty that today’s smartphone and tablet owners will surely appreciate. According to BlueStacks’ plans, the aim with their app for iOS is to become a sort of “Netflix for games” and the company is already being backed by popular iOS and Android developers, including Gameloft, Glu, Jawfish Games and Subatomic.

The secret to BlueStacks’ ambitious plan of bringing iOS games to your TV via a new console is a virtualization tool called Looking Glass. According to Rosen Sharma, the BlueStacks CEO, “Looking Glass works at the API level – it’s not quite virtualization or emulation as you’ve known it. We recreate the API that iOS provides, but we don’t use any Apple bits to do it”.

The platform BlueStack is planning to release is appealing for game developers too, because their solution isn’t forcing them to remake their games. “Literally all developers have to do is change their payments backend so it works with our subscription model and that’s it. They don’t have to do anything else to their games” Rosen Sharma added. Game devs agree the upcoming console is a good idea. Jamie Gotch, CEO of Subatomic, says “the ability to bring iOS games to TV is unprecedented” but “at the same time, this is a natural evolution” seeing as “mobile games are providing richer graphics and gameplay and heading towards the living room fast”.

BlueStacks’s GamePop console for iOS is currently available for free. Hurry up though the offer stands only until the end of June, if you sign to preorder the $6.99 monthly subscription. As of July, the GamePop console will sell for $129. Seeing as the offer includes free access to all games from devs backing the project to already announced Fieldrunners games, the GamePop console for iOS games on TV could easily become a popular choice for the avid gamer.

Google Now Assistant Challenges Apple’s Siri On Its Turf

If Siri ever gave you a headache you must have learned that there are alternatives to Apple’s digital assistant, and Google has one that’s possibly even better. The best part is that you won’t have to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad anymore to get that because the Google Now assistant is now available for iPad and iPhone. You can find them app in Apple App Store.

Apple has disappointed several times and Google was there to give users the better alternative. Remember the Apple Maps fiasco? Well, Siri isn’t just as faulty but there are better things out there and Google Now for iPad, iPhone is one of them. There are more languages available and since Google is the genius of web search, all of your queries are handled by a longtime search expert. So they are a lot more accurate.

“One of the things you have started to see is that Google is finding a mature design language across all of its products” explained Matias Duarte, Director of Android User Experience at Google. “When we started working on Google Now last year, we had people from all over the company from Search to Google Labs to Android come help design it” he added.

Although Google Now is an integrated part of the Android experience, the Google assistant for iPad and iPhone promises to give the user the same quality experience, with clean design and accurate results. But Google Now for iOS does bring something new to the table:

“We don’t want to just uniformly force one experience on to anyone, regardless of the platform” Duarte added in a statement for ABC News. “It has to be a good visitor in the country it lives in, while still retaining its unique identity. You need to accommodate the environment your experience lives in” he added.

So what’s Siri saying about Google’s challenge right on its turf? When asked about that, she replies “If it’s all the same to you, I’d rather Google later”. But iPhone and iPad users that have already installed Google Now believe Siri “is looking a little green with envy”. Mike Allton, a longtime iPhone user, believes competition like this is good “because it will lead to even more improvements”.

Volkswagen Launches iPhone 5 and App Full Integration with iBeetle Cabriolet

Well, it did take car makers long enough to finally integrate the iPhone experience in their cars. Last Friday, Volkswagen launched the iBeetle Cabriolet with iPhone 5 full integration and app at an auto show in Shanghai, China.

Later this month, between 20th to 29th of April, at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show, Volkswagen will introduce its first car that provides a full integration of iPhone 5. The iBeetle will be available in two models, Coupe and Convertible and will feature a docking station that transforms the iPhone in a fully functional on-board instrument. Both cars will be launched early 2014.

“Two iconic products will form an alliance later this year: the iPhone from Apple, and the Beetle from Volkswagen” reads the press release from Volkswagen. “The iPhone will interface with the Beetle and Beetle Convertible via a specially developed app and a docking station” making the iBeetle Cabriolet “the first model line from the Volkswagen Group in which the iPhone will become an integrated component”.

Even the colors and gear in the iBeetle were designed to be compatible with the iPhone’s design. Or at least, that’s what the press release reads. “The colors and equipment features of the iBeetle are stylistically linked to the Cupertino-based US company, bringing its iconic smartphones into harmony with what is certainly one of the world’s most iconic automotive designs” promises Volkswagen.

The iBeetle iPhone 5 app, called Volkswagen Car Net The Beetle, gives drivers and smartphone users easy access to several drive modes, seven to be more exact: Expert, Reader, Trainer, Postcard, Photos, Post and Milestone. It also gives them access to Spotify, allowing them to stream media into the iBeetle.

The seven different driving modes include several features. For instance, the Expert mode adds five functions to your iPhone 5 that transform it in an on-board instrument that makes it possible to measure lateral acceleration and coolant and oil temperatures for the car’s engine. The Trainer mode gives the user the ability to look at different driving times, distances and see which is more economic in terms of consumption.

World’s Most Expensive iPhone 5 Sells for a Whopping $15.3 Million

As much as most people cherish their iPhone 5’s, there aren’t all that many willing to pay $15.3 million for one, regardless of the number of diamonds that embellish it. But UK designer Stuart Hughes knows wealthy people will have no second-thoughts about pimping their iPhone 5 for $15.3 million. So here’s the how the world’s most expensive iPhone 5 looks like:

We’ve seen our fair share of outrageous cases and embellishments for iPhones of all versions and we’ve got mixed feelings about this $15.3 million iPhone 5. On the one hand, it’s available only for the top 100 wealthiest people in the world and it does seem stupid to waste all that money on gold and diamonds for a smartphone that becomes old news in just six months. On the other hand, investing so much money could be perceived as a long term investment in a collectible item that could very well sell in 50 years to an Apple fan for at least the same money.

The world’s most expensive iPhone 5 is coated in solid gold and is embellished with black and white diamonds. To be more precise this premium iPhone 5 has edges embellished in 600 white diamonds and the back panel logo carries another 53 diamonds. According to the designer’s website, it took him 9 weeks to transform the iPhone’s aluminum back panel into solid gold and cut the diamond that completely replaces the home button.

“This masterpiece boasts a massive circa of 135 grams of 24ct gold and of course sapphire glass set in the screen. The result was outstanding even down to the precise polishing to reveal its most beautiful harmonious appearance” reads the product’s description on the designer’s website.

And who is the owner of the world’s most expensive iPhone 5? It’s a Chinese business man who wanted to have a 26-carat black diamond somehow incorporated into an iPhone 5.

Fingerprint Sensor Will Do for iPhone 5S, What Siri Did for iPhone 4S

The next iPhone has to be better in every way possible. That’s something everybody wishes for ahead every upcoming new Apple release, but this time it’s all the more important, both for the company’s revenues and for the users’ self-esteem. Android smartphones have long become more tech savvy than Apple’s pricey iPhones and consumers have had enough. It’s high time for innovation. An analyst believes the fingerprint sensor so intensely rumored lately could do for iPhone 5, what Siri did for iPhone 4S.

All reports indicate one thing: Apple’s next iPhone is going to be an Android killer. However, what is fiction and what is actual improvement we’ll have to wait and see. In the meanwhile, we can only make predictions and who better to listen to than analysts? Brian White is an analyst with Topeka Capital Markets and according to a report by AppleInsider, he believes iPhone 5S stands for fingerprint sensor, innovation that could definitely patch the troubled relationship Apple has had with some of its most dedicated users.

Topeka Capital Markets’ analyst believes the fingerprint sensor will be used for “essential security purposes” such as enhanced authentication and more secure credit card payments. It’s the kind of feature that will definitely make iPhone 5S stand out from the crowd at a time when most smartphones have better features than the current model. It’s safe to say the fingerprint sensor will be as good of a selling point as the introduction of the Siri voice-recognition software and personal assistant for iPhone 4S.

But Brian White isn’t the first analyst to see iPhone 5S with an in-built fingerprint sensor. Just a few weeks ago, KGI Securities’ analyst Ming-Chi Kuo told investors he believes the next iPhone will have a fingerprint sensor under the home button. Seeing as Apple has spent $356 million to buy AuthenTec (smart sensor producer), the in-built fingerprint sensor in  an iPhone is just a matter of time, so why wouldn’t that be the case of iPhone 5S?

Freebies in App Store This Week: JED-GO Untouchable and Cowboy vs. Zombies

iPhone and iPad might be great and all but buying games and apps is expensive enough to put a strain on your monthly entertainment budget. So whenever free games and apps for iOS are available you should really take advantage of the opportunity. This week’s top freebies in App Store are two games: JED-GO Untouchable and Cowboy vs. Zombies.

From the looks of it this is the zombies - cowboys week in App Store, since both JED-GO Untouchable and Cowboy vs. Zombies are the kind of games that train you for the day the undead will come to rule the Earth and cowboys will rise to protect brains. Both of these games are free for a limited time only, so if you’re into zombies and/or cowboys, head over to the App Store and download yours today.

JED-GO Untouchable is one of the most basic zombie shooter games developed by iPhone. It’s the story of a manly moustache cowboy from the Old West who has to step up and protect artificial brains from hoards of hungry zombies. You guessed it, you’re Jed, that darn Old West cowboy who has to withstand the undead legions. You have all kinds of weapons to help you in your war and you can even win abilities to make the whole fight all the more surreal. You start with a plain cowboy pistol, but as you advance level by level you get spells, bazookas, lightning bolts, a dragon’s fire breath and even wizard powers.

JED-GO Untouchable is compatible with iOS 4.3 or later, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and 4S, iPhone 5, iPod Touch 3rd, 4th and 5th generation, as well as iPad.

The other free zombie game in App Store this week is Cowboy vs. Zombies, a classic if you will. You have to protect UnDeadwood city against hordes of zombies, but unlike JED-Go Untouchable this game focuses on strategy. Each zombie you kill gets you $1 in cash you can use to promote your cowboys from just guys with guns to deputies and sheriffs, making them stronger and better aimers. You have shotguns, snipers and dynamite at hand to kill those zombies and save your town.

The game is compatible with iOS 4.2 or later and works on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Zephyr Jailbreak Tweak Brings iPad Gestures to iPhone 5

Now that you’ve performed a jailbreak on your iPhone 5 it’s time to start installing the best and most entertaining tweaks. Zephyr should definitely one of the first jailbreak tweaks you get for your iPhone 5. It adds iPad gestures to your device!

Apple might have released their best iPhone yet, but the company did not think to release with iPhone 5 a new set of gestures, or at least incorporate some of the four-finger iPad gestures. This is something that has a lot of buyers baffled as they can’t figure out why Apple hasn’t given them the choice to use multi-touch gestures on iPhone 5 or not.

The thing is Apple’s iPhone 5 has a much smaller screen than the iPad, so multi-touch gestures might not be an efficient use of resources. But Chpwn believes users can decide for themselves and trusting the 4-inch Retina display’s attributes the developer released the Zephyr jailbreak tweak, which has in no time become one of the most popular apps in Cydia. In fact, fellow developer Steve Troughton-Smith dubbed it as one of the coolest jailbreak tweaks ever and a sign that “iOS on the iPhone really needs edge-swipe multitasking gestures”.

Zephyr is the perfect tweak when you’re struggling with a broken Home Button. The Cydia tweak makes it possible to swipe up from the bottom of the screen to close apps, swipe left or right from the edge of the screen to switch between apps, swipe up very smoothly to display the multitasking switched.

Chpwn keeps Zephyr updated on a regular basis, the 1.6 version for instance features improved keyboard detection, rotation support, keyboard disable, and new side swipe area gestures. For instance, Chpwn added the three-finger pinch option, the enable side swipes from a portion of your screen and fixed issues with OpenGL apps. The 1.5 version of Zephyr gives you the ability to use on iPhone 5 the following iPad gestures: pinch to close apps and four-finger swipe between apps.

Zephyr currently supports iOS 6.1, 6.0, iOS 5.0 and 5.1 on iPhone and iPod Touch and is available in Cydia App Store here for $2.99. Consider installing the multitasking Auxo tweak to keep Zephyr company and boost your device’s overall performance.

Apple Continues As Top US Smartphone Maker

Despite so many reports about poor sales and worries Apple will soon lose its competitive edge, a ComScore report shows that Apple continues as the top US smartphone maker, but Samsung and Android are closing the gap.

Samsung and Android based devices, in general, are becoming more and more appealing to consumers on a budget. There’s little discrimination now, when it comes to choosing between an iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy SIII or Note. But despite the overall downturn that Apple is currently experiencing in terms of consumer appeal, the company remains top of the US smartphone market, with a market share that’s nearly double of Samsung’s.

ComScore published earlier this year a report displaying the main trends in the US smartphone industry. The data helped enforce Apple’s position as a top smartphone maker in US with a 37.8 percent OEM market share, although Google Android is top of the list when it comes to platform market share.

Within three months, (October to December), Apple extended its market share with 3.5 points, boost possible thanks to the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 release. Rival Samsung came in second, with a market share of 21.4%, followed by HTC (9.7%) and Motorola (8.5%). However, when it comes to platform market share, Apple is second after Google and there’s quite a significant gap in between.

Google recorded in January 2013 a market share of 52.3%, whereas Apple had a 37.8% platform market share, gaining a 3.5 increase since October 2012. BlackBerry is third, with a market share of 5.9%, down from 7.8% in October 2012. Microsoft and Symbian are the last, with market shares 3.1%, respectively 0.5%.

Over the past few weeks there’s been a lot of rumoring going on about Apple’s upcoming products. One of the reports talked about Apple releasing a cheap iPhone which should be released in emergent markets, where Android and Samsung are currently thriving. Even if it would be the kind of gesture that says “I can do it too”, just like the iPad mini, the cheap iPhone is bound to be successful. That’s something that will definitely put a dent in Android’s platform market share.

Citi Analysts See iPhone 5 and iPad Demand Softening

Over the past few months, slow sales and poor demand for iPhone 5 and iPad have been investors’ nightmare and even if Apple remains the No. 1 smartphone maker in US, a new report shows there’s reason to worry about the future. Citi analysts see iPhone 5 and iPad demand softening.

A few weeks ago, reports about Apple cutting orders at suppliers in China went viral, as industry experts considered it a clear demand that iPhone isn’t selling like it used to. Citi analysts Glen Yeung, Jim Suva and Walter H. Pritchard informed investors they have reduced estimates for Apple’s second quarter revenue after finding evidence iPhone 5 and iPad demand is softening.

“In conducting our regular field work with the hardware supply chain, we again find evidence of reduced demand to Apple’s suppliers for iPhone 5 related components” reads analysts’ note to investors. “While production does not directly translate to sales (for example, we estimate Apple finished 1Q13 (Dec) with 10M iPhone units in inventory), we suspect this is an indication of softer demand for iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S” the note adds.

For this quarter, Citi analyst Glen Yeung estimates iPhone unit sales at about 34-35 million, although Wall Street’s estimates see 37 million units sold. However, for the second quarter, Yeung sees much more reduced sales, at 25 million, 7 million under Wall Street estimates. Yeung believes iPhone sales are being cannibalized by iPad Mini, although he expects production to flatten during the second quarter as Apple clears the stock for the new product release.

As for the low-cost iPhone so intensely rumored lately, Yeung does not believe that’s actually the case for Apple this upcoming quarter. “Despite much speculation amongst investors and third-party research, we find limited evidence of a low-end iPhone at this stage” Yeung told investors. “As noted above, we continue to expect iPhone 5S to be launched (albeit in early C3Q13 vs. late C2Q13) and anticipate a large-screen iPhone in late 2013/early 2014. But clear indications of a low-end iPhone remain elusive” the Citi analyst concluded.

Most Common Mobile Safari Bug Reports

Some call Mobile Safari the hidden gem of iOS, but the exclusive iOS features are still not significant enough to make this browser as popular as competitors Mozilla and Google Chrome. And it's not just the popularity or familiarity users have developed with Firefox and Chrome that are making a lot of people considering the removal of Mobile Safari as their default browser on iPhone or iPad. More often than not, users experience bugs with Mobile Safari that aren't just causing panic among novice users but are also ruining the web browsing experience on a sleek device such as iPhone 5 or the new iPad.

Some of the following bugs (all of them reported by users) might not apply for current iOS and Mobile Safari versions, since with each new firmware release, Apple rolls out an improved browser. However, the following is a list of some of the most common Mobile Safari bug reports filed by users. Some of them attempted to fix the bugs themselves, but the recommended solution is to make sure you are using a fix released by a source with proven knowledge of Apple software errors.

Overflow scroll breaks on visibility toggle

With iOS 5, Apple introduced scrolling within an element, without the need to use Javascript iScroll. However, the solution hasn't fixed the bug completely, as fixed elements don't scroll when the overall file/document is scrolled partway down. The next Apple fix for this bug was to have users add CSS code: "-webkit-overflow-scrolling:touch". Users say it works pretty well, but it still isn't a complete fix.

Javascript scrolling breaks touch events on position-fixed objects

This is one of the weirdest bugs users have reported about Mobile Safari. Buttons placed on the right edge of a screen for page up and page down functions worked only the first time. The second time users would use those buttons, they'd stop working. William Barnes, one of the users that have reported this explains: “if I just scrolled down 100px, the button would stop working, but if I then touched a spot 100px above the button, it would register”.

Spinning loading indicator

The rollout of iOS 6 brought quite a list of bugs that several sources have attributed to Mobile Safari. TechCrunch has reported a continuous spinning loading indicator, a bug that hints the UX has suffered degradation during the activation of an AJAX request. This means that any realtime app is subjected to the spinning loading indicator bug. The bug existed before iOS 6, but the new firmware made its fix useless. No workaround is currently known for this bug.

Evad3rs’ PlanetBeing Explains Why Jailbreaking is Safer than Rooting

For most of the one-time and beginner jailbreakers it’s hard to feel safe employing hacks on their personal and beloved iDevice. Knowing which is which and understanding how a jailbreak works, seems quite difficult for the user who isn’t tech savvy. One of the aspects more important is a jailbreak’s safety. Evad3rs’ PlanetBeing explained in a AMA session on Reddit why jailbreaking is safer than rooting.

A few days ago, one of the developers of the evasi0n jailbreak sat down with Reddit users in an Ask Me Anything session. Topics ranged from the future of jailbreak to particular aspects of the procedure as well as bugs and safety issues. One user asked a question that many iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users have dealt with when considering a jailbreak procedure.

“Why is jailbreaking safer than rooting? When I do research on rooting I see that it is possible to completely f*ck up your device to the point of needing a soldering iron” explains his dilemma one Reddit user. First of all there’s one thing to remember: “jailbreaking is super-safe”. “Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. In fact, anyone who thinks they’ve bricked their device with a jailbreak can send it to me. I can fix it unless it’s a hardware or a baseband thing” answered David Wang.

So what makes jailbreaking safer than rooting? PlanetBeing explained you’ve got Apple to thank for that. “Apple did a great job having a safe bootchain that extends all the way back to ROM. The bootrom always works no matter the software state of the device” the evad3rs’ member said. The bootrom is also the place where jailbreak developers look for exploits and no matter the bad state of the phone, from here “you can almost always bootstrap the restore process... and completely recover it”.

Also take into account that you can always go back to a restore version after a jailbreak that won’t mess up your Apple warranty. “...after a restore, no one can tell your iOS device had ever been jailbroken unless it phoned back home to Apple while it was jailbroken or you tried to do something to the baseband in order to unlock it” added David Wang.

Evad3rs’ PlanetBeing Talks about His Start with Jailbreaking

Evad3rs’ PlanetBeing
It didn’t take the jailbreak community several months to release the public jailbreak code for iPhone 5 because iOS6 was that much of a challenge. As Evad3rs PlanetBeing confessed, everybody “took a break for awhile”, so the actual search for vulnerabilities wasn’t exactly as lengthy as most iOS users believed.

In a quite candid Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, Evad3rs’ Planetbeing talked about everything from his start with jailbreaking to the future of the practice and what it takes to become a jailbreak developer. Given the huge interest on Reddit and the overall appeal for the iOS 6 jailbreak not only in dedicated communities but all over the internet, Planetbeing aka David Wang just became one of the most popular names in the hacking world.

Many of the questions asked during the AMA session where linked to the beginning of Planetbeing’s career as an iOS jailbreaker. Users asked about background, motivation, training, job opportunities and plans for the future, sign that the whole iOS 6 jailbreak is now having people considering a new career.

“When I started, I had a lot of programming background and a passion for building my own programming projects in my spare time” David Wang said. “The exploitation stuff Apple really trained me in doing since they made each stage progressively harder” he added in response to an user’s questions about his experience with jailbreak development.

“I started on iOS when I bought an iOS device and it has remained fun throughout the years. I hacked on iOS because I owned one and I owned one because it was by far the best mobile platform in 2007” David Wang answered a Reddit user asking why he choose iOS over Android.

The developer explained Android does seem to have more vulnerabilities than iOS, but when it comes to safety issues between jailbreaking and rooting, the first is always certain. If Apple’s bootrom is insanely tight, when it comes to Android, “they don’t enforce any code signing [so] there’s less security to get around”.

iOS 6.1 Glitch Lets You Bypass iPhone Lockscreen Password

bypass iPhone 5 Pass Code
If other iOS 6 bugs are just making it harder for you to enjoy a great piece of technology, a new iOS 6.1 glitch actually exposes your private data. A YouTube video shows a tutorial that uses a iOS 6.1 glitch that lets you bypass the iPhone lockscreen password.

The Verge and Apple Insider used the steps in the YouTube video to test the iPhone lockscreen password glitch. Sure, the actual procedure is to some extent a bit uncommon, but it still gives straightforward access to your private data. Watch the video or follow these steps to test the iOS 6.1 Lockscreen glitch.

Step 1

Lock your device then slide to unlock

Step 2

Hold the sleep button until the device prompts for power down. Tap Cancel and then wait for the status bar to turn blue. Type an emergency number, tap Call and cancel it immediately, before it connects.

Step 3

Press the sleep button to lock the device and then turn it on by pressing the home button.

Step 4

Unlock your device by slide-to-unlock, hold the sleep/wake button and 3 seconds later tap Emergency Call button.

This will open your device and give you access to several private areas of your iPhone, including iMessages, FaceTime,. Photos, voicemail, call list, emails and contacts. YouTube users said they were able to replicate the iOS 6 hack on iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and iPhone 4.

It’s not the only iOS 6.1 problem users have reported and since the procedure involves an aborted emergency call, the actual passcode screen and pressing the home button and the power button at the same time, Apple isn’t exactly prioritizing this. “Apple takes user security very seriously. We are aware of this issue, and will deliver a fix in a future software update” reads the company’s statement.

This is also not the first time the iPhone lock screen glitch is reported. In 2011, researchers bypassed iPhone’s lock screen password in six minutes using a hack that gave them access to every single feature of the device.

PlanetBeing’s Advice on Becoming an iOS Jailbreak Developer

Ten years ago, tech savvy people were called geeks. Now, people that know the ins-and-outs of a computer system and can make their way around complicate code language are superstars. PlanetBeing and the rest of the evad3rs’ team have delivered more than a jailbreak for iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S.

PlanetBeing aka David Wang is one of the four members of the new Dev-Team that delivered a jailbreak for iOS 6 on iPhone 5. He is also one of the most popular names in the internet community and thanks to the highly anticipated jailbreak David Wang is now a name a lot of kids in highschool know and are curious about. In a recent AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Reddit, users were keen to know more about jailbreaking as a career opportunity as well as the kind of training it requires. Several asked bluntly what it takes to become an iOS jailbreaker and if that’s something that adds value to a CV.

PlanetBeing’s advice for people who would like to get into jailbreaking professionally or just of curiosity to start by reading everything there is about existing jailbreaks. “Perhaps try to rewrite an existing exploit another way, or improving it somehow” the hacker advises and even if “there’s going to be a lot of stuff you won’t understand at first” just be patient while you take the time to put all pieces together.

Just “make small achievable goals and work/study hard to accomplish those”. Also don’t expect others to motivate you or teach you. Being self-motivated is key: “if you have to rely on other people to teach you, you won’t get very far jailbreaking unfortunately”.

Since most often a jailbreak process involves the use of several tools it is definitely a good idea to start get familiar with fxr.watson.org, IDA, vim, clang, opensource.apple.com or “an existing jailbreak with OpenSSH”.

Since jailbreaking involves a lot of coding it would be easier to have a background in a related field. For instance, when PlanetBeing first started developing a jailbreak he “had a lot of programming background and a passion for building my own programming projects in my spare time”.

Will jailbreaking cause damage to an iPhone, iPad or iPad: Questions & Answers

Jailbreaking an iOS device provides perks that users are definitely interested in to fully customize an Apple gadget. Even if it’s only because you want to download ringtones or install customized themes, jailbreaking your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch does make the overall user experience feel more personal. In the end, everybody turns their smartphone, tablet and mp3 player in an extension of their personality, so why should Apple limit that?

The first issues that come to the mind of people interested in jailbreaking for the first time their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch are linked to software safety and potential damages to hardware. Will jailbreaking cause damage to an iPhone, iPad or iPad is one of the first questions that users ask and it is also the main reason many don’t go all the way through with the jailbreak research process.

Jailbreaking is a process that does not damage your iDevice. The process only impacts the software and restoring to a safe, original, previous version of the iOS firmware is easy and fast to perform. It doesn’t even take intricate programming knowledge. All you have to do is connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to iTunes and perform a restore procedure. That’s where SHSH blobs come into work, so make sure you save those before anything else.

There’s one red flag though: if you use the faulty version of the unlock or jailbreak software and update an iPhone using an iPad baseband that can cause damage. Compatibility is always something to check out before launching a jailbreak procedure.

Each jailbreak tool employs a certain vulnerability in Apple’s iOS system. Before A5 devices such as iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S, hackers would exploit a bug that became known as Limera1n. It was a low-level boot ROM exploit which was able to perform untethered jailbreaks on devices earlier than iPhone 4 and including.

For iOS 6, the evasi0n jailbreak tool employs a much more complicated process, although for the user the invested effort is as close to minimum as it gets. Just like previous jailbreak tools, evasi0n works by itself after the user has downloaded, extracted and launched the app.

Sonos Releases iPhone 5 Fix for its Controller App Bugs

For a home theater soundbar that streams music wirelessly and costs a whopping $699, Sonos surely has a bunch of annoying bugs in its Controller App. The maker has released an iPhone 5 fix for the Controller App’s bugs as well as universal favorites and compatibility for Android.

Sonos has decided to handle all user complaints with a singular software release. This promises not only to fix the Controller App’s bugs and move favorites in a much handier place, but also to make it fully compatible for Android and iPhone 5.

If you know any Sonos listener than you might have noticed there are several bugs he or she keeps complaining about for a device that costs almost $700. Sonos favorites are mingled in separate sections and while that’s annoying, the worst part is that the Controller App wasn’t optimized to work on iPhone 5 and iOS 6.

Sonos’ recent changes finally give users the occasion to use iPhone 5’s huge screen. Use the Sonos Favorites menu to store preferred tracks from any music service. It works for music libraries, streaming services and even radio stations. Just save tracks, playlists or radio stations in Sonos Favorites and all it takes is one touch to access them. However, that feature does not work for iTunes music, since iOS devices are mobile and “the music files stored on these devices often leave the house”.

The new software update also features a function that allows for 3rd party app integration. Sonos uses “a simple URL syntax that allows for an outside program to launch the app directly”.

And then there’s the Android widget for Sonos which allows users to play, pause or skip to the next track right from the smartphone’s or tablet’s home screen. You need Android version 2.2 for the Sonos widget to work.

All you Need to Know About Evasi0n Jailbreak and Device Compatibility

Apple’s iOS 6 combined with the better A5 devices has been the biggest challenge so far in the jailbreak community. This time around it took jailbreakers much longer than ever before to break into Apple’s OS, however as much as users have been waiting for the iPhone 5, 4S, iPad mini and 4 jailbreak, consumers are weary about using this team’s tool.

It’s not that users might think the evasi0n jailbreak is risky, but they didn’t have the time to become familiar with its developers. The Evad3rs team has just surfaced in the world of jailbreaking iOS and although its members are reputable in the world of hackers, many users still don’t feel comfortable enough using a jailbreak that wasn’t released by iPhone Dev-Team.So here’s what you need to know about the evasi0n jailbreak and its developers.

The numbers do look impressive enough to speak for the jailbreak’s reputation. Recent statistics say that in the last seven days more than 7 million iOS devices have installed evasi0n. So evad3rs’ jailbreak is basically the most popular tool of its kind ever. The long wait and appeal built around the jailbreak tool have boosted popularity to the extent that Cydia has received “insanely more new traffic” says administrator Jay Freeman.

The new Dev-team that developed evasi0n is made of four popular hackers, including two of the most experienced: Pod2g, MuscleNerd, Planetbeing and Pimskeks. Pod2g is the French hacker that gave the world the first untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1, whereas MuscleNerd has been developing jailbreaks since 2001 and is the founder of iPhone Dev-Team, as well as part of the original team of developers behind Redsn0w, Ultrasn0w and the PwnageTool.

In terms of user-friendliness, evasi0n is just as hassle-free as previous jailbreaks. However it might feel like it takes longer, but it does require a minimum effort from your part. As for how evasi0n works, that’s for most users like magic. Developers aren’t revealing the actual exploit just yet, saying that “Apple can figure that one out for themselves”.

The good news is that evasi0n does perform an untethered jailbreak on Apple’s most recent iDevices. Here is the compatibility list for evasi0n on iOS 6 devices, updated last February 11, 2013:

Evasi0n Step-by-Step Untethered Jailbreak Guide for iPhone 5, iOS 6 on Windows

The Evad3rs team released just a few days ago the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak tool for iPhone 5. If you haven’t performed the jailbreak yet, here’s a guide that explains every step of the process. It’s basically just as hassle-free as previous jailbreak tools, so you won’t need extensive hacker skills or software development knowledge.

The following is an evasi0n step-by-step untethered jailbreak tutorial for iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.0 via a Windows system. Before anything else, make sure you perform a backup of your iPhone 5 as well as save your device’s SHSH blobs.

Step One

On your Windows’ desktop, create a new folder and call it Pwnage. Download the jailbreak tool in this folder. Extract the Evasi0n zip file in this folder, double click to open the folder and launch the .exe evasi0n file in Administrator mode.

Step Two

The evasi0n jailbreak app will first ask you to connect your iPhone 5 via USB to your Windows computer. Before connecting your smartphone to the computer, remove lock screen passcodes and wait for the jailbreak tool to recognize your iPhone model and iOS version. Click on the “Jailbreak” button when you’re ready.

Step Three

Evasi0n will now perform the actual jailbreak and will run the following stages: generate jailbreak data, inject stage 1 jailbreak data, reboot the device, wait for the device to be ready, inject stage 2 jailbreak data, upload Cydia and upload the Cydia packages list. Just don’t touch your device during the process.

Step Four

Unlock your device, tap the “Jailbreak” app icon just once. Don’t get worried and don’t touch your device: the app will open and close right away, also the screen will go black and then return to the home screen.

Step Five

Evasi0n will inject the remount payload, remount the root filesystem, prepare the final jailbreak data, inject the final jailbreak data. Be patient for the jailbreak tool to do its thing and don’t tap the icon again.

Step Six

Before the Cydia icon will appear on your iPhone 5’s SpringBoard, the smartphone may restart several times.

iPhone Google Maps Review: Faster Than The Android Version?

The best way to determine which software between iPhone’s Google maps and Android’s Google maps is better is by making a comparison between them. The two devices were, thus, used for a 677-mile trip from New York to Michigan during which the interface of the two programs has been subject to various tests.

The first difference that becomes noticeable is the fact that the Android version of the Google maps has a much better graphics than the other version. The interface has been provided with many street and river names, whereas the aspect of the map is as true to the original maps as possible. iPhone apps, on the other hand, are much more simplistic because they don’t have too many options and features.

Moreover, the 3D graphics that has been long praised by the manufacturing company becomes almost unnoticeable once you get outside the city. Analysts have, nevertheless, explained the difference in style by claiming that the Android version was created three years ago, so Google has had the opportunity to improve their apps.

If you want a travel companion that can display information related to traffic and nearby businesses, then, Google’s Android maps are the right choice for you. This program is constantly updated with the latest changes that have been made in relation to street mapping, so you can rest assure that it will be easy to find the locations you are interested in, whether it is a hotel or a local business.

Unlike the Android version, which offers users the possibility to select layers, the iPhone version only uses a layer when displaying the information in navigation mode. No other layers are displayed in the rest of the cases. With Android you can also set a destination and search the places you are interested in along the route. iPhone’s voice assistant, Siri, comes in handy when looking for places as you only have to press the Home button and ask the software to guide you to the closest restaurant you are interested in.

All in all, both the Android and the iPhone app do a pretty good job in guiding you towards your final destination. The two programs display accurate information and are quick to recalculate your route in case you missed its initial suggestion; however, Google Maps for Android seem to be the safest choice in case you are looking for a product that can rival the features of a GPS.
