World’s Most Expensive iPhone 5 Sells for a Whopping $15.3 Million

As much as most people cherish their iPhone 5’s, there aren’t all that many willing to pay $15.3 million for one, regardless of the number of diamonds that embellish it. But UK designer Stuart Hughes knows wealthy people will have no second-thoughts about pimping their iPhone 5 for $15.3 million. So here’s the how the world’s most expensive iPhone 5 looks like:

We’ve seen our fair share of outrageous cases and embellishments for iPhones of all versions and we’ve got mixed feelings about this $15.3 million iPhone 5. On the one hand, it’s available only for the top 100 wealthiest people in the world and it does seem stupid to waste all that money on gold and diamonds for a smartphone that becomes old news in just six months. On the other hand, investing so much money could be perceived as a long term investment in a collectible item that could very well sell in 50 years to an Apple fan for at least the same money.

The world’s most expensive iPhone 5 is coated in solid gold and is embellished with black and white diamonds. To be more precise this premium iPhone 5 has edges embellished in 600 white diamonds and the back panel logo carries another 53 diamonds. According to the designer’s website, it took him 9 weeks to transform the iPhone’s aluminum back panel into solid gold and cut the diamond that completely replaces the home button.

“This masterpiece boasts a massive circa of 135 grams of 24ct gold and of course sapphire glass set in the screen. The result was outstanding even down to the precise polishing to reveal its most beautiful harmonious appearance” reads the product’s description on the designer’s website.

And who is the owner of the world’s most expensive iPhone 5? It’s a Chinese business man who wanted to have a 26-carat black diamond somehow incorporated into an iPhone 5.
