Beware of These Fake iPhone 5 Jailbreaking Apps and Sites

An iPhone jailbreak isn’t that expensive to begin with, but when you’re falling prey to software scams several times, down the line it’s going to mount up to a hazardous expense. Not to mention iPhone 5 jailbreak scams open the doors to malware and data theft. When there are so many websites and apps claiming they deliver the iOS 6 jailbreak for iPhone 5, for users it all comes down to being cautious with their downloads.

Over the past few months, there have been several fake claims, apps and websites that promised the iPhone 5 jailbreak taking advantage of users’ despair and unfamiliarity with this particular field. Since there’s so much buzz over the jailbreak topic, you’d be shocked to learn how many websites are fake. It will only take you a basic Google research to find out there’s a huge list of fake websites and apps, more than you’d even imagine. For instance, users on forums dedicated to iPhone 5 jailbreaks have flagged the following websites as scams, and since it’s hard to know for sure, just browse them with cautiousness.

But the list of hoaxes surrounding the iPhone 5 jailbreak buzz isn’t even close to completion. Each day, another website gets launched, scamming people into paying anywhere from $10 to $40 for a software that won’t jailbreak anything. In fact, it will charge your card and copy your cardholder name, email address, card number, expiry date and card validation code.

Other websites do feature jailbreak software but not for iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S. You will download an obsolete version of software that will work for older iOS versions and devices. So once again, you’re losing money and getting nothing in return. On the other side, some scammers will create an almost identical copy of a popular jailbreak site which is hard to tell apart even for the knowledgeable eye.

Some iPhone 5 jailbreaking scams are so good they even trick Apple’s strict regulations. A $9.99 app was eventually removed by Apple from its App Store after users flagged it as a scam and complained they lost their money. The app was called “Jailbreak” (produced by RiliSoft) and claimed to deliver the jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. But users who paid for the promise of an iPhone 4S jailbreak suddenly found themselves playing a game, and not jailbreaking their devices.
