How to Fix the Cydia Quarter Screen Bug after the Evasi0n Jailbreak

For the most part a jailbreak process works successfully, but there are some cases when certain incompatibilities mess it up, creating later on errors and all kinds of bugs. Evasi0n is the latest jailbreak tool to join the list of tools that break Apple’s iOS and that means there’s a list of new jailbreak bugs and errors that may take a hit at your device. One of the most common post Evasi0n jailbreak errors is the Cydia quarter screen bug. Here’s how to fix it.

Users that have performed jailbreaks on both iPhone and iPad have red flagged an issue with Cydia following the Evasi0n hack. Cydia is now showing up tiny after rebooting. There are several tweaks that might affect Cydia’s functionality, but the main problem is that your device is running apps and software that aren’t compatible with iOS 6.

The list is quite significant, but the most often incompatible tweaks behind the Cydia quarter screen bug are the Deck, an old version of Transparency or an old version of RetinaPad. Although Winterboard and UIKit Tools are compatible with iOS 6 upgrading or installing these items might activate the Cydia bug.

However, the list of possible incompatible tweaks is quite long and goes beyond what you’d think off beforehand. Consult the entire list here. Some of the items in the list may not still apply since developers release updates of their software quite often.

If you’re looking for a temporary fix for the Cydia quarter screen bug, you can restore the app’s functionality by respringing. However, this is only temporary and the problem will not go away until you remove incompatible tweaks.

To fix the Cydia quarter screen bug, you have to manually uninstall any of the tweaks that might be incompatible with iOS 6. You will do that by first putting your iDevice into Safe Mode with SBSSettings (tap the Power button in its menu) or reboot while holding the volume up button.

To find out when your incompatible tweaks are scheduled for update, you can go to the package page in Cydia, select the “Change Package Settings” and then turn on the “Show All Changes” button, which will let you see upgrades to the package although it is not installed.

All you Need to Know About Evasi0n Jailbreak and Device Compatibility

Apple’s iOS 6 combined with the better A5 devices has been the biggest challenge so far in the jailbreak community. This time around it took jailbreakers much longer than ever before to break into Apple’s OS, however as much as users have been waiting for the iPhone 5, 4S, iPad mini and 4 jailbreak, consumers are weary about using this team’s tool.

It’s not that users might think the evasi0n jailbreak is risky, but they didn’t have the time to become familiar with its developers. The Evad3rs team has just surfaced in the world of jailbreaking iOS and although its members are reputable in the world of hackers, many users still don’t feel comfortable enough using a jailbreak that wasn’t released by iPhone Dev-Team.So here’s what you need to know about the evasi0n jailbreak and its developers.

The numbers do look impressive enough to speak for the jailbreak’s reputation. Recent statistics say that in the last seven days more than 7 million iOS devices have installed evasi0n. So evad3rs’ jailbreak is basically the most popular tool of its kind ever. The long wait and appeal built around the jailbreak tool have boosted popularity to the extent that Cydia has received “insanely more new traffic” says administrator Jay Freeman.

The new Dev-team that developed evasi0n is made of four popular hackers, including two of the most experienced: Pod2g, MuscleNerd, Planetbeing and Pimskeks. Pod2g is the French hacker that gave the world the first untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1, whereas MuscleNerd has been developing jailbreaks since 2001 and is the founder of iPhone Dev-Team, as well as part of the original team of developers behind Redsn0w, Ultrasn0w and the PwnageTool.

In terms of user-friendliness, evasi0n is just as hassle-free as previous jailbreaks. However it might feel like it takes longer, but it does require a minimum effort from your part. As for how evasi0n works, that’s for most users like magic. Developers aren’t revealing the actual exploit just yet, saying that “Apple can figure that one out for themselves”.

The good news is that evasi0n does perform an untethered jailbreak on Apple’s most recent iDevices. Here is the compatibility list for evasi0n on iOS 6 devices, updated last February 11, 2013:
