Jailbreak iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod Touch 4th Generation iOS 6.0.1 with Redsn0w

Apple’s iOS 6 has 200 new features that have swept most iPhone owners off their feet. And it’s hard not to, in the end with Apple it’s all about having the latest new thing. Unfortunately for iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S owners upgrading their firmware to iOS 6 means losing the perks of a jailbroken device. However, if you have an iPhone 4, 3GS and iPod Touch 4th generation and you have upgraded to iOS 6.0.1, the good news is you can jailbreak your device.

Redmond released the Redsn0w jailbreak for iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod Touch 4th generation iOS 6.0.1 as of last year, but remember like many other early jailbreaks, this one is also limited to a tethered boot and to iDevices prior to A5. If you want to jailbreak iPhone 5 running iOS 6 don’t attempt to use this software version. Stay current with the jailbreak news in the dedicated section on our website.

Remember this is a tethered jailbreak which means you will have to reboot your device into tethered mode to launch Cydia and other jailbreak apps. Redmond recommends to connect your iPhone to your PC and start Redsn0w when it begins to lose power, then select Extras in the main window and click on the Just Boot function.

Step 1

Download iOS 6 (most recent version) and update the firmware on your iDevice.

Step 2

Download Redsn0w, the latest version and run the .exe file.

Step 3

Launching the Redsn0w jailbreak tool and click Extras first, select IPSW and manually select the original iOS 6 file and not the latest beta version of the firmware (iOS 6.1 beta 1).

Step 4

Click Jailbreak in the main window of the Redsn0w jailbreak tool, click Next and select Cydia.

Step 5

Enter your iPhone in DFU mode. There is a tutorial on how to do that available in the tutorial section on our website.

Step 6

The jailbreak software will do the whole work by itself. Redsn0w will use the Limera1n exploit to jailbreak and install Cydia on pre-A5 devices. Select “Autoboot this device when it connects in DFU mode” so that the iPhone restarts in tethered boot mode.
