How to Perform an Untethered Jailbreak on iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.0 with Evasi0n on Mac

It’s been a long wait for the iPhone 5, iOS 6 untethered jailbreak and developers finally delivered. All of those waiting for the iPhone 5 jailbreak can now enjoy the perks of iOS 6 freed from Apple’s boundaries and system limitations. The following step-by-step guide will help you perform an untethered jailbreak on iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.0 using the Evasi0n tool and a Mac computer.

Before performing a jailbreak, do backup your iPhone 5 and save the device’s SHSH blobs.

Step One

On your Mac’s desktop create a new folder and label it Pwnage. Download iOS 6.1.0 if you haven’t installed the latest firmware already. Download the Evasi0n jailbreak tool from a reputable source, such as this one.

Step Two

In the Pwnage folder, double click on the Evasi0n dmg file and mount it. Drag the Evasi0n application file from the mounted dmg into the Pwnage folder on your Mac’s desktop. Use the “Open” option in the contextual menu to launch the jailbreak. Click “Open” again if Mac requires a second confirmation.

Step Three

The first thing the Evasi0n jailbreak will ask you is to connect your iPhone 5 to your Mac via USB cable. Remove all passcodes and wait for the jailbreak tool to recognize your device. Click the “Jailbreak” button when Evasi0n reads your device model and iOS version.

Step Four

Evasi0n will begin the jailbreak procedure and perform several operations: generate jailbreak data, inject stage 1 jailbreak data, reboot the device, wait for the device to be ready, inject stage 2 jailbreak data, upload Cydia and upload the Cydia package list. Until the app says so, don’t touch your iPhone 5.

Step Five

Evasi0n will then ask you to “unlock your device and tap the new Jailbreak icon”. You only have to tap on it once, which will make your device’s screen go black and then display the home screen.

Step Six

The jailbreak tool will now start injecting final jailbreak data on your iPhone 5.

Step Seven

Evasi0n will announce the jailbreak is complete, but don’t fret if your device restarts a few time before Cydia appears on your iPhone 5’s SpringBoard.
