For a home theater soundbar that streams music wirelessly and costs a
whopping $699, Sonos surely has a bunch of annoying bugs in its
Controller App. The maker has released an iPhone 5 fix for the
Controller App’s bugs as well as universal favorites and compatibility
for Android.
Sonos has decided to handle all user complaints with
a singular software release. This promises not only to fix the
Controller App’s bugs and move favorites in a much handier place, but
also to make it fully compatible for Android and iPhone 5.
If
you know any Sonos listener than you might have noticed there are
several bugs he or she keeps complaining about for a device that costs
almost $700. Sonos favorites are mingled in separate sections and while
that’s annoying, the worst part is that the Controller App wasn’t
optimized to work on iPhone 5 and iOS 6.
Sonos’ recent changes
finally give users the occasion to use iPhone 5’s huge screen. Use the
Sonos Favorites menu to store preferred tracks from any music service.
It works for music libraries, streaming services and even radio
stations. Just save tracks, playlists or radio stations in Sonos
Favorites and all it takes is one touch to access them. However, that
feature does not work for iTunes music, since iOS devices are mobile and
“the music files stored on these devices often leave the house”.
The
new software update also features a function that allows for 3rd party
app integration. Sonos uses “a simple URL syntax that allows for an
outside program to launch the app directly”.
And then there’s
the Android widget for Sonos which allows users to play, pause or skip
to the next track right from the smartphone’s or tablet’s home screen.
You need Android version 2.2 for the Sonos widget to work.
